99-Year-Old World War II Veteran Walks Laps to Raise Money for Healthcare Workers: Tom Moore, an English World War II veteran, has been walking laps around his back garden to raise money for the National Health Service. So far, the Englishman has raised over £2.6 million pounds for NHS in just one week. Moore initially set a fundraising target of £1,000. The cash will go to help frontline health workers fighting the coronavirus. Moore aims to walk 100 lengths of his 82-foot garden by his 100th birthday on April 30th.
Himalayan Mountains Visible From India: Due to the coronavirus lockdown, residents in India's Punjab were able to see the Himalayan Mountains for the first time in 30 years. The significant drop in automobile and flight traffic caused at least 85 Indian cities to have cleaner air. According to Forbes, air quality received a "good" rating 16 out of the 17 days post-lockdown in Jalandhar, Punjab. During the same period last year, there were zero days when the air quality received a "good rating". See the pictures here.
Canadian High Schoolers Launch Joy4All Project: In hopes of entertaining adults who are forced to stay away from their family and friends during this time, a group of Canadian high schoolers have created a hotline that plays pre-recorded messages of positivity. The hotline is run by the Calgary Board of Education. People of all ages are encouraged to dial 1-877-JOY-4ALL to enjoy a selection of jokes, stories, guided meditations, and educational messages. Ever Active Schools teacher Jamie Anderson said, "A lot of folks who are in isolation are missing their families right now, so we're just trying to fill in some of the gaps and bring them a little bit of joy and levity during these difficult times."
John Krasinski's Some Good News: During social distancing, The Office and Jack Ryan star has started a YouTube show named Some Good News. In their second episode, he had a 9-year-old girl, who had her trip to New York to see Hamilton canceled due to the coronavirus, on via Zoom. After giving the girl plane and show tickets in the future, John invited the original cast of Hamilton on the zoom call to sing her a song. Watch the video here.
