  • Will We Have College Sports In The Fall?

    Sports play a significant role in a lot of our lives. The competition, which doubles as entertainment and distraction, allows us to build character and friendships. With the PGA Tour and MLS back in action, and the MLB, NBA and NHL hopefully following suit soon, we turn our attention to college sports. Will we have college sports in the fall?   • Consumer Price Index Rises 0.6% In June

    After three months of declines, the consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.6% in June, tying its largest monthly increase since 2009. Gasoline prices, beef, and physician services led the rise, while energy prices rose for the first time in five months. Airline fares also rose 2.6% in June. Prices should continue to rise towards the 2%-3% annual pace of inflation that was happening before the Coronavirus. In addition, real average hourly earnings, which is the cash earnings of all workers adjusted for inflation, declined 1.7% in June. With that being said, they are up 4.3% in the past year. 

     

  • Zoom For Home

    Wednesday, Zoom announced it is releasing an "all-in-one personal collaboration device" to create a better remote work environment. The device, named "Zoom for Home -- DTEN ME" will cost $599 and will feature a 27-inch screen with three wide-angle cameras, eight microphones, and a touchscreen display. The device will work with an existing Zoom account and provide access to standard Zoom features, according to CNBC. Zoom for Home - DTEN ME is available for pre-order now, with the company expecting to begin shipping in August. 


  • NBC Universal Launches Peacock Streaming Service

    On Wednesday, NBCUniversal launched its streaming service, Peacock, which users can access on most major devices and platforms. There are three tiers of subscription: free, which features 13,000 hours of content with ads, Premium, which houses 20,000 hours of content for $5/month, and Ad-free Premium, which is $10/month. According to NBC and several media and entertainment executives, Peacock is more about positioning the company's existing, ad-supported business for a future in which traditional television may not exist. The service will feature TV-like, always-on channels built around everything from sports to news to late-night and reality TV.

  • Cauliflower Rice and Drive-Thrus

    On Monday, Chipotle announced that it will test Cilantro-Lime Cauliflower Rice at 55 restaurants in Denver and throughout Wisconsin starting July 15. The cauliflower rice addition follows the Carne Asada, Supergreens Salad Mix, and Queso Blanco, which were rolled out on a national scale in the past year. The rice will cost an additional $2. In addition, Chipotle plans on hiring 10,000 workers to support drive-thru expansion, according to Reuters. 60% of new restaurants will feature a drive-thru. The company's online sales jumped 80% in the first quarter.
