The Bullet Points 1.8.2021

  • Options For Your 401(k)

Over the last year, we've seen a number of our clients either change jobs or retire. A change in employment usually comes with one question: What are my options for my old 401(k)? Check out the video below where Austin and Steve dive into the topic and help you understand your options. If you have any additional questions, please reply to this email or call us at 615.370.4040.

  • 2021 Required Minimum Distributions

While the rule that required individuals in RMD status to take distributions was suspended in 2020 due to the CARES Act, the requirement is back in effect for 2021. Therefore, anyone who is over 72 and/or has a qualified account will be required to take an RMD in 2021. With the stock market near an all-time high, we would encourage you to think about taking your RMD at the beginning of the year if you wish to take it in a lump sum. We will be reaching out to our clients in RMD status during the first part of 2021 to talk further, but please feel free to contact us directly if you have additional questions.

  • A look back at 2020

Now that we are in 2021, we wanted to take a second and look back at the 2020 returns for the major US stock market indices, and the journey they took to get there. The Dow Jones Industrial Average generated a 9.7% total return including dividends, which trailed the S&P 500 (+18.4%) and the Nasdaq Composite (+45%). The strong performance is a long way from March 23rd, when the S&P 500 was down 30.88% YTD, while the Nasdaq Composite's value was down 24.35% YTD. While 2020 was unusual in many ways, we are thankful for the opportunity to walk with our clients through the ups and downs of life. It's a pleasure to serve you.

  • Amazon Purchases Jets From Delta and WestJet

On Tuesday, Amazon announced that it has bought a total of 11 Boeing 767 aircrafts from Delta and WestJet, according to the Business Times. The purchase comes during a period of increased online shopping and reduced consumer travel. Amazon launched its air shipping division four years ago but has previously only relied on leased jets. Amazon was almost certainly able to purchase the jets at a discount as airlines look to reduce costs and bring in cash.
